Its name is derived from the Nepali words Tamba (copper) and Koshi (river), referring to the copper-like hue the Rangbhang River takes on when its silty waters reflect the sunlight. This offbeat sanctuary is surrounded by eight world-class tea gardens, including Chamong and Thurbo, producing the world-famous "Darjeeling Tea". It is a masterpiece of rural Himalayan beauty, where travelers can escape the commercial bustle of Darjeeling town for riverside picnics, village hikes, and authentic tea garden life.
