Overview
Ghoom Railway Station is famously known as the highest railway station in India, perched at an altitude of 7,407 feet (2,258 metres). Established in 1881, it is a key stop on the UNESCO-listed Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR). The DHR Ghoom Museum, located right on the station premises, is one of three museums dedicated to the DHR. It preserves the illustrious history of the "Toy Train," featuring the Baby Sivok—the oldest DHR steam locomotive—alongside rare photographs, antique railway artifacts, and uniform relics from the British era.

Smart Tips
Book in Advance: Joy Ride tickets, especially for steam engines, sell out weeks in advance during peak season. Book via IRCTC.
Station Stop: If arriving by Joy Ride, the train stops for 20–25 minutes; use this time specifically for the indoor museum on the upper floor.
Photography: The Baby Sivok locomotive parked outside is the best spot for heritage photos. Flash is usually prohibited indoors.
Dress Warm: Ghoom is often foggier and colder than Darjeeling town due to its higher elevation.
