Kurseong (Kharsang)
Highlights
Overview
Kurseong, situated at an altitude of 4,864 feet (1,482 m), is a serene hill town located halfway between Siliguri and Darjeeling. Its name originates from the Lepcha word Kharsang, meaning "Land of White Orchids". Known for having a milder and healthier climate than Darjeeling, it is a tranquil alternative to busier hill stations. The town is famous for its lush tea gardens, misty pine forests, and high-altitude heritage schools. It is also part of the iconic Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (Toy Train) route, with the tracks often running right alongside the main road.
