Overview

Bijanbari is a serene valley town situated at an altitude of approximately 2,500 feet along the banks of the Little Rangeet River. Unlike the ridge-top town of Darjeeling, Bijanbari lies in a deep valley, offering a warmer, tropical climate and a completely different landscape of terraced farms and fruit orchards. It serves as the headquarters of the Darjeeling Pulbazar block and is known for its Hydro-electric power plant and vibrant weekly haat (market). It is a haven for those looking to experience "slow life," riverside camping, and authentic Himalayan rural culture.

Smart Tips

Riverside Picnic: Head to the banks of the Chota Rangeet River; it is the most popular spot for fishing and picnics among locals.

Sericulture Farm: Visit the farm near Poolbazar (2 km away) to see how silk is produced from mulberry bushes and silkworms.

Orange & Pineapple Orchards: Unlike the higher hills, Bijanbari's lower altitude allows for vibrant pineapple and orange orchards.

The "Slow" Evening: Expect limited mobile connectivity and power fluctuations; the town effectively "goes to sleep" by 8:00 PM.
