Overview

The Old Ghoom Monastery (Yiga Choeling), built in 1850 by Lama Sherab Gyatso, is the oldest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Darjeeling. Belonging to the Gelugpa (Yellow Hat) sect, it is famous for its 15-foot statue of Maitreya Buddha, rare manuscripts, and vibrant murals.
