Smart Tips

For Indian Nationals: A Protected Area Permit (PAP) is required. Individual applications are not allowed; it must be arranged via a registered operator in Gangtok. A nominal processing fee of approx. ₹200 applies.

For Foreign Nationals: Effective January 2026, digital permits are mandatory through the e-FRRO portal. Physical permits have been discontinued. Solo foreign travelers are strictly prohibited; travel must be in a group of two or more with a certified guide.

Documents Needed: Photocopy of Passport/Voter ID (Aadhar often not accepted as proof of nationality for PAP) and 2 passport-sized photos.

Early Start: Leave Lachung by 7:00 AM to reach the valley before clouds settle in by afternoon.

Zero Point: If weather permits, pay the extra amount to reach Zero Point (Yumesamdong), the final civilian-accessible point near the China border.

Hot Springs: Walk across the pedestrian bridge over the river to reach the natural hot springs.

Packing: Carry extra socks and waterproof gear as you may encounter snow near Zero Point even in April.
