Overview

The Birla Mandir, also widely known as Gita Mandir, is a prominent spiritual landmark in Mathura dedicated to Lord Lakshmi Narayan. Built in 1946 by the renowned industrialist Jugal Kishore Birla in memory of his parents, the temple was officially inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi, who requested it remain open to all castes. The temple is a masterpiece of red sandstone and white marble, uniquely famous for its Gita Stambh—a towering pillar where all 700 verses of the Bhagavad Gita are inscribed. Its spacious, clean, and serene environment offers a tranquil retreat from the crowded inner city temples of Mathura.
