Bhuteshwar Mahadev & Shivtal
Highlights
Overview
Bhuteshwar Mahadev is revered as the oldest temple in Mathura and one of the four traditional "protector" Shiva shrines of the city. According to mythology, it was established by Shatrughna (Lord Rama's younger brother) after he defeated the demon Madhu. The temple is unique as it houses the Patal Devi Cave, where King Kansa is said to have worshipped. It is also considered a Shaktipeeth, marking the spot where the ringlet of Mata Sati fell. Nearby, Shivtal is a historic kund (pond) where Lord Shiva is believed to have meditated for many years in devotion to Lord Vishnu (Shri Hari)

How to Reach
Smart Tips
Abhisheka: There is a unique conduit at the grilled gate allowing devotees to offer first prayers/water onto the Shivling from outside.
Avoid the Break: Many first-time visitors arrive between 1:00 PM and 4:30 PM only to find the temple closed.
Shivtal Cleanliness: Note that Shivtal is a historic landmark but may lack modern cleanliness; visit primarily for its spiritual significance.
Combined Itinerary: Since it's only 500 metres from Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi , it is best to visit both in a single morning
