Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (Toy Train)
Overview
The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR), affectionately known as the "Toy Train," is a 2-foot narrow-gauge railway that began operations in 1881. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it connects the plains of New Jalpaiguri (NJP) to the hills of Darjeeling. The most popular experience is the "Joy Ride," a round trip from Darjeeling to Ghum (India's highest railway station), which passes through the famous Batasia Loop and offers stunning views of Mt. Kanchenjunga. It remains an engineering marvel and a romantic symbol of the British colonial era.
